1822 Sketch Wardour Castle Rutter Lord Arundell presentation copy fine binding
An historical and descriptive sketch of Wardour Castle and demesne, Wilts : the seat of Everard Arundell, Lord Arundell of Wardour : with a catalogue of the celebrated collection of paintings : intended as an accurate and pleasing guide
by John Rutter [1796-1851]
Printed and published by J. Rutter, Shaftesbury; sold by Longman, Hurst, and Co. London 1822
Bound in fine leather, gilt tooled.
52 pages, illustrated frontis.
John Rutter (1796–1851) was a topographer, printer/bookseller, political agent and later lawyer.
This topographical work is scarce. I can find no copies for sale at the present time.
It is also of interest for the quality of the binding and the inscription from H Arundell to F Buckley 1823 on the front pastedown; this is presumably a gift from the Henry Benedict Arundell, 11th Baron Arundell of Wardour (1804–1862).
Book condition: good+; externally a little rubbed to hinges; internally generally clean, though some foxing present; bookplates of the Oates family to front pastedown.
Offered for £229.99 Buy-it-Now.
I asked for trade price and £190 offered
I countered with £175 and it was accepted.
