ABE 200401
Memorials of the parish of Codford St. Mary, in the county of Wilts ; containing particulars of the church. By the author of Memorials of Oxford. by (Ingram, Rev. James) Oxford, printed by T. Combe for the author 1844. An attractive and rare little book by the Oxford academic James Ingram (1774-1850), which provides a history and description of the parish church of his native village in Wiltshire, recently restored and enlarged by the distinguished London architect T.H. Wyatt. It serves as a reminder that it was not just Cambridge-educated clergymen who were keen on the Gothic Revival, and the volume as a whole is an object lesson in what such publications should be, the lithographic plates being printed by Day & Haghe from drawings by the young Matthew Digby Wyatt (T.H. Wyatt's son) and by the ubiquitous Thomas Talbot Bury. Only a single copy is recorded in NUC (New York Public Library). 8vo. iv + 50pp, woodcut frontis, 6 plates (of which 2 engraved, 2 tinted litho, 2 mounted outline litho), text ills. Original printed wrappers, front cover slightly marked at right-hand side.
The price of the book is US$ 178.32 (

This booklet is the 'particulars of the church' with 6 plates of illustration and several wood engravings by the author of memorials of Oxford.  Sold by John Henry Parker.  On the front handwritten is The Revd T H Leighton, Harpsden Rectory (I think this is what it says).  Inside it has plans and engravings of the church, stonework, alterations, etc..  There are also some loose cuttings, quite small.  Two are of St Laurence's church at Swindon, in present and enlarged state, printed, plus an engraved type picture of it.  The last piece is a picture 'proposed restoration & repairs, 1843', presumably Swindon again, and has the Revd S Raymond, Rector, on it.  These look as if they have been cut out of somewhere but nothing on back.  50 pages.  Cover browned with age but all book intact.#
