1839 ANTIQUITIES OF CHESTER BY J S PROUT 20 LARGE TINTED LITHOGRAPHIC PLATES *
I have here for sale a beautiful and rare large format book entitled ANTIQUITIES OF CHESTER by J S Prout. It was published by Ackermann & Co in London and Boult and Catherall in Chester in 1839. It consists of 20 full page (36 x 26 cm) tinted lithographic plates of views of Chester which include the Cathedral, St Johns Chester, Bridge Street, Watergate Street, the Phoenix and Water Towers and the Rows. Each one individually would look very handsome framed on your wall. Handwritten dedication page at the front to the Marquis of Westminster.
Black leather spine on brown blind embossed hardboards with gilt lettering to front board. Top and bottom of spine are missing but otherwise in good condition. One plate is loose and there is a little foxing to prelims and a tiny bit throughout but many of the 20 plates are clean and bright. Book measures 37 x 27.5 cm.
