Book Description: B.& J.F.Meehan, Bath, 1913. Quarto, 43pp, roughly 23 x 15 cm (9 x 6 inches), contemporary quarter brown morocco over green cloth, gilt lettering, 9 black and white illustrations. Extra-illustrated with original water-colour of the Three Cups by Samuel Poole laid in opposite title-page. Boards slightly soiled and browned. Spine lightly worn with chipped caps. Press cutting pasted to reverse pp43. In very good condition. PRESENTATION COPY from the artist Samuel Poole to ghost story writer J[ohn] [Cecil] (Jack) W[oodiwiss]. Poole was employed by Cedric Chivers, the Bath bookbinder, and the book contains a loosely inserted hand-written letter dated Feb 5th 1929 from Poole to Woodiwiss, describing Chivers funeral and mentioning a disagreement between the two men some three years ago.
