Rare 1856 1st Edition Antique Travel Adventure Book A VACATION IN BRITTANY by CHARLES RICHARD WELD with ILLUSTRATIONS 1856. A very interesting & charming illustrated vintage travel adventure guide book, illustrated with many super engraved drawings to the beginning of each chapter & some within the text, of various Cities, towns & places back in the mid 1800's, in Brittany, France (see photos for just a few, more details on the book & its condition). A 1st edition published by CHAPMAN & HALL, 193, PICCADILLY, LONDON in 1856, with gilt tooling to the page edges.
Blue cloth board covers with gilt decoration to the front cover & again with gilt titles to the spine, the cloth board covers are overall in GC with some age wear & discolouring, corners knocks, spine has some wear to the top & bottom edges (see photos). The 351 inner pages are generally in GC with hardly any if no foxing, slight age browning commensurate with their age & more so to the page edges, corner folds to a few pages, page 5 has a tear to the right edge of approx. 1-3/4", there is some gapping between pages 144/145 but they are still fully attached to the binding, there are no pen/ink or other marks to the inner pages, it has a slight lean to the right, the binding is tight & intact, & the book is complete (see photos for more on the books content & its conditions).
Size 7-3/4" (197mm) x 5-1/4" (134mm), weight approx. 600 grams & overall the book is in GC for its age of 166 years. NOTE : The shadow to the centre of some of the photos is from my camera & not actually on the pages.
