Book Description: Domenico Chiossone, Firenze, 1860. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Very Good. Various (illustrator). Elephant Folio - 19.25" Tall. Title page continues: ' . disegnati ed incisi dai quadri originali esistenti nelle varie citta della penisola pubblicata fer cura dell artistica Domenico Chiossone. Illustrata da brevi cenni storici e da biografie de'piu celebri pittori per David Chiossone, dedicata a Don Jose Guell y Rente'. Translated into English this reads: 'Artistic Italy - or Gallery of Italian Masterpieces drawn and etched from original paintings which can be found in various cities throughout Italy, published by Domenico Chiossone. Illustrated with brief historical notes and biographies of the more renowned artists, by David Chiossone. Dedicated to Don Jose Guell y Rente.' The book is bound in half-vellum (vellum spine and corners) with marbled boards. The binding is in reasonable condition only. The marbled boards are quite badly scuffed and the front board is curved / bowed in appearance. There is a small 1" split at the head of the spine hinge with the front board, and at the foot of the spine a 4" vertical and 2" horizontal tear in the velum binding has been professionally repaired. Internally there are pages of Italian text and fifty full-page black and white high quality etchings on thicker paper, each with a tissue-guard. There are a few fox marks (mainly to the tissue-guards) and small marks, but mainly the pages are crisp and clean. No writing. At the back of the book there appears to be a list of subscribers. A beautiful volume. Images available on request.
