Selling here is a first edition of John Preston Neale and John Le Keux's 'Views of the Most Interesting Collegiate and Parochial Churches in Great Britain...', published in London for the proprietors by Longman, Hurst [et al], 1824-5.
8vo, two volumes, uniformly bound in later black cloth gilt.
The books measure 16cm by 24.5cm.
The contents of both volumes are complete, with 96 steel engraved plates, two woodcut vignettes and accompaning letterpress.
Condition: The bindings are holding firmly and in good condition, with some general light wear to extremities from handling, a few pale stains to the spines. Contents are holding firmly and are generally in very good clean condition if a little toned, with some offsetting from the plates and a few minor spots of foxing. Center fore edges of about fifteen leaves in vol I are bumped causing a short nick/closed tear for which eleven leaves have an old brown paper repair (see pictures). Occasional light pencil markings, upper flyleaf vol I with later ink gift inscrition, flora endpapers upper fe vol I removed. |
