1787Selling here is William Angus' 'The Seats of the Nobility and Gentry...', published by W. Angus, London, 1787. A good complete example of this 18th century oblong view book, FOR SALE WITHOUT RESERVE.
One of a small collection of similar view books that we are offering today.
Oblong 4to, bound in period green full morocco with ornate decoration in gilt and blind, four broad raised bands to spine, page edges gilt.
The book measures 27.1cm by 22.1cm.
The contents are complete with engraved title page and 63 copper engraved plates, each with accompanying leaf of letterpress.
Condition: The binding is holding firmly and is in good condition, with some general wear to surface / extremities from handling, spine ends a little chipped, hinges rubbed, corners bumped, a few surface scuffs and abrasions. Contents are holding firmly and are generally in good condition if a little toned, with some scattered foxing throughout which is heavier to the edges of the plates, some offsetting from the images to adjacent text leaves. Original brown endpapers, endpaper joints starting.
