Views of Bath - R E Peach - 36 pictures of Old Bath
Views of Bath - R E Peach, Bookseller & Publisher - 8 Bridge Street - Bath.

This is what looks like a really old book, though I am unable to give a date of publishing. It was I think published by R E Peach as stated above.  The inside first page states Graphic Views of Bath and vicinity -it includes 36 pictures of Old Bath, including the following:

Mausoleum of Ralph Allen, Sham Castle, Bath from Beechen Clifflansdown crescent, West front of the Abbey Church, View of Camdon Crescent, Partis college, North view of the Abbey Church, The Lion Hotel - Guildhall & Abbey Church, Old bridge and railway viaduct, View from the north parade bridge, Bathampton church, Widcombe old church, The military female school - Lansdown Road, The royal crescent, Bath from vicinity of priory park, Proprietary college - Sydney gardens & Sydney place, Mill and ferry-Bathampton, the Dundas Aqueduct - Claveston, The Abbey Church - cheap st from the orange grove, Entrance to Bath (from Bristol & Wells), The cemetery with distant view of Bath, Starting place for the Scotch Boat, Charlecombe Church & ancient Yew, Bath from Beacon Hill,Beckfords Tower - Walcot Cemetery - Lansdown, Queen Square, Claverton church, Widcombe old church and house, St Stephens church, Laura Place and great Pultenery Street, New Kingswood college, East view of the Abbey Church, The Christopher Hotel and Market Place & St Michaels Church, Great Western Railway through Sydney gardens, Bath proprietary college and North Parade Bridge.

The binding on this book is in very poor state of repair, the outer cover for the spine is just about there but is torn away down the front, and the pages are almost all loose. The gold writing is still present on the front but again both front and back covers are worn and marked.  The book has 10 pages of writing before the pictures start, and then has one picture on one side of a page for 36 pages.  Some have small marks and the pages are a little marked/worn. However I think this book must be quite old as it came from an elderly relative who was born in the Bath area - so I guess for it's age it's not to bad - all the pictures are clear and really surprisingly clean.

Unfortunately the book has no date - but the text about the pictures refers to dates between 1304 to 1837 (though these are really just dating buildings that were present).

This book needs a good home - rather than a box in my loft.  I would say any value was in the pictures and text and that the book could be rebound and maybe restored - but it needs to be owned by someone that wants it for the content as much as anything.  To much of a gem to be stuck in a box in the loft.    Any questions please e-mail in plenty of time.
(Actually there are 37 plates)
