BATH GUIDE 1793 – 1875 Three related guides bound together.
a. THE NEW BATH GUIDE or, useful companion, a new edition improved and much enlarged, 1790. Printed by R. Cruttwell, for W. Taylor, Church Street, Kingston Buildings.78 + [2] pp, 5 illustrations, last page of the guide has a timetable of the Post [coach] to & from Bath and various parts of the country.
b. THE ORIGINAL BATH GUIDE considerably enlarged and improved; forming an indispensable pocket companion for the visitor or inhabitant. [1817],138 + [1] pp ,index, 2 fold-out maps, Town plan of Bath has a small tea ; a circular map of 5 miles round Bath, reduced in size for the Guide, condition is good, etching of Town Hall, includes interesting accounts of life in Bath. Appendix about Bath Gas-Light and Coke Company and the Freemasons Hall.
c. THE ORIGINAL BATH GUIDE [1875], historical and descriptive, containing details of walks, the medicinal uses of mineral waters and the geology of the neighbourhood, William Lewis, 'Express and County Herald' Office,12 Northgate Street.143pp, green card covers, contents list, 12 [vignette] sepia views and folding map of Bath, includes information about the Post Office and details of distances regulating Hackney cabs and wheelchair fares, advertisements.
This is an interesting collection of guides with a wealth of information in each one about life in Bath for visitors and local residents. Each guide-book is in a reasonable condition commensurate with age, the maps require a little attention. Binding project.
