As it appears from Pile Hill during the dreadful riots on the night of Sunday October 30th 1831, when the New Prison and Two Toll Houses seen on the left of the picture, the Bishop's Palace near the Cathedral in the centre, the Mansion House, Custom House, Excise Office and nearly Fifty Dwelling and Warehouses in Queen Square and streets adjacent occupying the distance beyond. Redcliffe Church on the right (exclusive of the Bridewell and Lawfords Gate Prisons, which do not fall within the limits of the picture) were plundered and burnt; and Property to the amount of nearly One Hundred Thousand Pounds stirling totaly destroyed.
