Wiltshire District Maps Series

Andrews & Dury 1774

Andrews and Dury published the first large scale map of Wiltshire from an original survey in 1774.

The county was divided into 18 rectangular areas, in six rows of three, numbered from left to right and bottom to top. The title of the map appeared in a cartouche in the top right corner - i.e. sheet number 18. A separate plate was engraved for each area and printed on a double folio sheet, folded at the centre. An additional smaller scale index map was included on its own sheet.

The maps were issued uncoloured or with simple outline colouring.
