9 9 : Van Langeren, Jacob 1635

Matthew Simmons's "A Direction to the English Traveller" contained tables of distances with thumbnail maps for each count. The maps were copied from the 1590 Bowes playing cards. The engraver was almost certainly Jacob Van Langeren. The plates were sold to Thomas Jenner who erased and re-engraved the maps.

Appeared in 1635 and 1636 editions of A Direction for the English Traveller, possibly with a minor revision of the plate, as was the case for most counties.

Examples can be found in the following English County Atlases.
